Some guitars make history through their sound. Others through their appearance. The “Crash” Stratocaster associated with Eric Clapton clearly belongs to both categories. An iconic guitar, instantly recognizable thanks to its bold aesthetic blending electric guitar design with urban art.

A few years ago, Fender and Eric Clapton once again joined forces for the noble cause of Clapton’s Crossroads Festival, an occasion that led to the creation of this legendary instrument and the release of an extraordinarily limited run: only 60 pieces worldwide. A tiny production for a guitar that celebrates one of the most visually striking Stratocasters in rock history.

The story of the Crash Strat is tied to Clapton’s many artistic influences. The original guitar was painted by New York artist John Matos, better known as CRASH, a major figure in graffiti and urban art culture. His work completely transformed the instrument: vibrant colors, dynamic lines, and an almost explosive graphic energy.

The result was spectacular. On stage, this Stratocaster became instantly recognizable. It embodied a rare meeting between two cultural worlds: the aesthetics of New York street art and the tradition of British blues rock. An unexpected fusion that perfectly matched a time when the boundaries between art, music, and urban culture were becoming increasingly blurred.

The guitar presented today at Matt’s Guitar Shop is part of this ultra-limited series of 60 instruments. A faithful reissue that captures the spirit of the original and preserves the visual impact of this legendary Strat.

The pickguard shows a slight mark of use, a small trace that reminds us a guitar is not only meant to be admired, but also played. And despite this detail, all the mojo of this extremely rare series is still fully present.

Beyond its spectacular finish, the Crash Stratocaster remains first and foremost a Strat: dynamic, expressive, and capable of delivering that unique blend of clarity and warmth that defined the instrument in Eric Clapton’s hands.

Owning a guitar from this series is far more than possessing a rare object. It means owning a direct tribute to one of the most visually iconic Stratocasters ever seen on stage. A guitar where art meets music, where every color tells a story, and a collector’s piece that reminds us that sometimes, rock history is written… on the paint of an instrument.
