Rammstein
Neue Deutsche Härte – Fire and Steel
Formation and early years
Rammstein was formed in Berlin in 1994, emerging from the music scene of the former East Germany. The band consists of Till Lindemann (vocals), Richard Kruspe (lead guitar), Paul Landers (rhythm guitar), Oliver Riedel (bass), Christoph Schneider (drums), and Christian “Flake” Lorenz (keyboards).
Worldwide success
The debut album Herzeleid (1995) launched the Neue Deutsche Härte (New German Hardness) genre. Sehnsucht (1997) and the single “Du hast” broke through in the United States. The self-titled album Rammstein (2019) debuted at number one in 14 countries.
Rammstein is one of the few bands performing in German to achieve global success.
Spectacular live performances
Their concerts are among the most spectacular in the world, featuring flamethrowers, pyrotechnics, and theatrical staging. The band has sold more than 45 million albums and fills the largest stadiums across Europe.
Till Lindemann is also a published poet in Germany. His lyrics, often ambiguous and provocative, make use of the German language’s harsh and percussive sound to create a hypnotic effect. Rammstein’s songs explore themes such as sexuality, death, technology, and German history with a biting irony that many non-German speakers do not fully perceive.
Iconic guitars
Richard Kruspe plays ESP signature models and Gibson Les Paul guitars. Paul Landers uses custom ESP guitars and Fender Telecaster models.
