Mick Jagger
The Rolling Stones – The greatest rock star in the world
Origins and early years
Michael Philip Jagger was born on July 26, 1943 in Dartford, Kent, England. A student at the London School of Economics, he reunited with Keith Richards and formed The Rolling Stones in 1962, inspired by the blues of Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry.
The ultimate frontman
Mick Jagger’s stage presence – his hip-shaking moves, raspy voice, and endless energy – defined the role of the rock frontman. The Jagger/Richards songwriting duo created many of the band’s greatest hits: “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, “Start Me Up”, “Brown Sugar”.
The Rolling Stones became the greatest live band in the world, with tours breaking box-office records worldwide.
Mick Jagger is also a shrewd businessman who negotiated some of the most lucrative contracts in rock history. Rolling Stones tours from the 1990s onward consistently broke revenue records: the A Bigger Bang Tour (2005–2007) grossed more than $558 million. Jagger is the father of 8 children from 5 different women, with his youngest child born in 2016 when he was 73 years old.
Legacy
The Rolling Stones have sold more than 200 million albums. Mick Jagger was knighted (Sir) in 2003. Even in his 80s, he continues to perform on worldwide tours, embodying the ultimate example of rock longevity.
