Marcus King
The young prodigy of southern blues-rock
Origins and Early Life
Marcus King was born on March 11, 1996 in Greenville, South Carolina. Coming from a family of musicians (his father, Marvin King, is a blues guitarist), he started playing guitar at the age of 8 and was already performing live by 11.
The Marcus King Band and Solo Career
He formed the Marcus King Band and released Soul Insight (2015) at just 19 years old. The album Carolina Confessions (2018) and his first solo album El Dorado (2020), produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, established him as one of the most promising guitarists of his generation.
Young Blood (2022) confirmed his move toward a more direct and accessible southern rock sound.
At only 20 years old, Marcus King was already invited to perform with legends such as Eric Clapton at the Crossroads Guitar Festival (2019). His powerful and emotionally charged voice impresses as much as his guitar playing. He cites Derek Trucks, Dickey Betts, and Albert King among his main influences.
Style and Legacy
His powerful soul voice and guitar playing, blending blues, southern rock, jazz, and country, have earned him comparisons to Duane Allman and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Iconic Guitar
Marcus King is associated with the Gibson ES-345 Memphis Custom Shop and Gibson Les Paul guitars, known for his warm and saturated signature tone.
