Kirk Hammett

Metallica – The lead guitarist of the biggest metal band

Origins and Early Years

Kirk Lee Hammett was born on November 18, 1962 in San Francisco. A founding member of the thrash band Exodus, he joined Metallica in April 1983, replacing Dave Mustaine.

With Metallica

He has played on every Metallica album since Ride the Lightning (1984). Master of Puppets (1986) is considered one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Metallica (the “Black Album”, 1991) sold over 16 million copies in the United States alone, driven by “Enter Sandman” and “Nothing Else Matters”.
Hammett was a student of Joe Satriani and brings a melodic lead playing style influenced by blues and classic heavy metal.
Kirk Hammett is also a passionate collector of horror films and horror memorabilia. He published the book Too Much Horror Business (2012) and created a touring exhibition, “It’s Alive”, showcasing his collection. This passion is reflected in his custom guitars decorated with horror-themed designs.
