The shop

Matt’s Guitar Shop is a retail business dedicated to exceptional musical instruments. Founded by Matt Lucas over ten years ago, it has become a renowned and respected shop in just a few years. With a strong focus on rare and extraordinary pieces, Matt’s Guitar Shop has made artist-owned instruments its specialty and remarkable guitars its core activity. Today, it stands as a recognized expert and one of the most respected establishments in the industry worldwide.

At the crossroads of music history and the magic of fine lutherie, Matt’s Guitar Shop has become a storyteller—preserving and passing on the legacy of these witnesses to musical creation. Over time, it has become a key player in the world of vintage instrument expertise and sales, with a growing focus on artist-owned guitars. Driven by the belief that the greatest musicians choose instruments of exceptional character, the shop has made it a mission to seek out these iconic tools.

Following this same passion for music, the Matt’s Guitar Shop showroom opened in 2019—a unique space for exchange and discovery that restores Paris’s prestige in the world of fine guitars. A place where inspired and inspiring instruments continue to whisper beautiful notes into the ears of true enthusiasts.

Who is Matt?

Passionate about rock music and guitars since his teenage years, Matt Lucas has built his life around the six-string instrument. The guitar has been the driving force behind his decisions and risks, ultimately establishing him as a renowned dealer and expert. It was while listening to hours of AC/DC that Matthieu first heard, through Angus Young’s solos and riffs, the spark of a calling: to make the guitar the heart of his vocation. Guided by a pure passion, Matt learned from the world’s most experienced dealers. With an insatiable thirst for knowledge and bold determination, he immersed himself in a market as intricate as it is fascinating—until he uncovered the unique magic hidden behind artist-owned guitars.

Long kept in the unreachable shadows of backstage, artist instruments were not yet valued by the market as they are today. Seeing in them a cultural and historical significance like no other, Matthieu decided to make them his core specialty.

The artist’s guitar thus becomes an extension of their art, the material continuation of an aesthetic idea, the essential brushstroke in a composition, the key to understanding a creative process. In founding Matt’s Guitar Shop, Matt made this then-unprecedented interest in artist gear the very foundation of his work. Over the years, he has collaborated with major national and international musicians in selling their collections (Bernie Bonvoisin, Renaud, Richie Sambora, KISS, Lenny Kravitz) and has participated in the sale of historic instruments (guitars owned by Jeff Buckley, Prince, the Sex Pistols, Jeff Beck). He has also developed deep expertise in the vintage guitar market—rare and coveted instruments that form the other core of Matt’s Guitar Shop.

Fully aware of being merely a messenger of history and emotion, Matt Lucas strives to bring out the magic these instruments hold and to share it with as many people as possible. From the moment the Paris showroom opened, Matt’s Guitar Shop embraced a philosophy of openness and sharing. Far from being a closed space, it welcomes all enthusiasts. Guitars are also regularly loaned out for live or studio use, reconnecting them with their original purpose: to be played—and to move people.

Now a dealer for over ten years, Matthieu is a trusted figure in the field of expert appraisal, valuation, and sale of vintage and artist-owned instruments. His pursuit of rare and exceptional pieces continues daily, with the same passion and dedication—and the same wonder before a Burst, a Blackguard, or an early L-series Strat.

Fully conscious of both the responsibility and the privilege of handling pieces of history, Matt has gradually expanded the Matt’s Guitar Shop team to reach a broader audience. Today, he is surrounded by a rich and diverse group that carries forward his original vision: to inspire dreams and pass on the passion held within music and its instruments.
