Nik Huber Krauster I Ex Steely Dan

Nik Huber Krauster I Ex Steely Dan
Nik Huber is one of the best luthiers currently active, and his team of eight specialists builds incredible guitars in Germany, near Frankfurt. He started in 1996, and Huber has mostly crafted highly decorated and sophisticated instruments in the vein of what Paul Reed Smith or Joel Dantzig have done. But Nik Huber also has the knack for applying his expertise, finesse, and precision to simpler designs—guitars closer to the Les Paul Junior than the Standard—that sound excellent and are very well built despite their Spartan appearance.
Thus the Krautster II model appeared, featuring characteristics reminiscent of a Les Paul Special seen through the eyes of the German master: the body is a single piece of mahogany, but the glued-in neck is maple, which is rather surprising. Surely inspired by the Les Paul Junior, Nik Huber gave it a little “twist” by opting for a maple neck, which adds a bit more snap. The PRS-style hybrid scale length is 25”, the perfect middle ground between Gibson and Fender, and the non-adjustable wraparound bridge guarantees perfect transmission of string vibrations to the body. The model offered by Matt’s Guitar Shop is exceptional. It belonged to the legendary American rock band Steely Dan, composed of Donald Fagen and the no less legendary Walter Becker. A piece that sounds deeply tied to a prestigious heritage!
