The 1960s were a time of profound social change, driven by the rise of the hippie counterculture. Reaching its peak with the legendary Woodstock Festival held in White Lake in August 1969, this era of protest and rebellion found its visual identity in psychedelia. These unforgettable moments of freedom were fueled as much by the smell of marijuana as by the Beatles’ compositions and Jimi Hendrix’s wild solos. One motif came to symbolize this extraordinary decade: the paisley pattern. Of oriental origin, shaped like a teardrop or leaf and decorated with abstract designs, the paisley became an iconic emblem of the 1960s — so much so that Fender created a pink paisley version of both its Telecaster guitar and bass in 1968.

Celebrating the psychedelic sixties and the chaotic spirit of rock ’n’ roll, Fender introduced the pink paisley versions of the Telecaster guitar and bass in 1968 (both available at Matt’s Guitar Shop). Only a small number of these instruments were ever produced in this unique and iconic finish, making them among the rarest and most sought-after colors. The finish was created by applying paisley-patterned wallpaper directly onto the bodies. Once the glue had dried, a sunburst-like shading technique was used to add visual depth before applying a clear coat. Each instrument features a transparent plastic pickguard that highlights the full effect of the paisley pattern.

The Pink Paisley Telecaster Bass available at Matt’s Guitar Shop is a rare 1968 model. Beyond its hypnotic visuals, it delivers that thick, vintage 1960s bass tone — a true flashback to one of rock ’n’ roll’s most electrifying decades!
