It’s no secret that Marcus King has been a close friend of Matt’s Guitar Shop for several years. Every time he visits the capital, he takes the opportunity to play the shop’s guitars. But this time, it’s his signature models that give us a chance to talk about him!
Whenever Marcus King announces concert dates, it’s always an event for his aficionados and fans. Tickets are often scarce — and for good reason — as it’s always an unforgettable evening with top-tier musicians. With bigger venues and albums flowing, it was clear that Gibson would approach him for signature guitars. And where better to start than the ES, the model that has accompanied him from the very beginning?
Marcus first cut his teeth on his grandfather’s 1962 Gibson ES-345. “Big Red,” as he calls it, is a precious totem he vowed to care for and protect at all costs. When Gibson approached him for a signature model, the design naturally started with Big Red. This signature edition is therefore a reissue inspired by his prized instrument.
Originally released as a Custom Shop model, this modern ES-345 version captures the look and spirit of the original, with only the features Marcus considers essential. It even includes a cool detail: a specially designed tailpiece cover made for Marcus King and bearing his name.
After his concert last summer in Belgium, Marcus King signed the headstock of a few Sixties Cherry signature editions for the Shop. Marcus fans, don’t hesitate! These guitars are just as modern as they are respectful of Marcus King’s musical heritage — and excitingly detailed instruments still available at Matt’s Guitar Shop.
