Iconic figure of Trust, Bernie Bonvoisin has left a lasting mark on French rock history with his unwavering commitment, hard-hitting lyrics, and electrifying stage presence. With international ambition, he turned Trust into a phenomenon that reached far beyond French borders. More than just a socially engaged band, Trust embodied the very best of French rock, earning recognition from Anglo-Saxon peers such as AC/DC, Iron Maiden, and Anthrax. Still sharp and energetic, the band has stood the test of time without ever losing its rebellious spirit.
During his visit to Matt’s Guitar Shop, Bernie Bonvoisin spoke about his relationship with the electric guitar. While he is best known for his sharp lyrics and songwriting talent, his skills as an instrumentalist are less widely known. From the very beginning, he surrounded himself with talented musicians – notably Nono Krief and Yso – to bring his powerful lyrics to life. Yet his love for the guitar was never just about sound: captivated by their sharp and elegant shapes, he was drawn to the instrument from an early age. In 1978, he acquired a 1963 Gibson SG, which would become his signature guitar. Present on stage, in the studio, and at rehearsals, this guitar was by his side throughout every step of his journey. After nearly fifty years together, Bernie chose to part with it in 2025, offering this storied instrument a new chapter.
Beyond its musical function, Bernie has always seen the guitar as a work of art, fascinated by its lines and aesthetics. His choice of the SG was no accident: to him, this guitar embodies the very essence of rock. True to his connection with it, he personalized its case over the years, decorating it with backstage passes and various mementos, turning it into a true record of his career.
A true piece of French rock history, this legendary Gibson SG now continues its journey. We are honored by Bernie’s trust in us to give it a new future. Feel free to contact us with any questions!
