Muse

Space and symphonic rock

Formation and early years

Muse was formed in Teignmouth, Devon, England, in 1994. The trio consists of Matthew Bellamy (vocals, guitar, piano), Chris Wolstenholme (bass), and Dominic Howard (drums). They have known each other since secondary school.

Rise to fame

After Showbiz (1999) and Origin of Symmetry (2001), it was Absolution (2003) and especially Black Holes and Revelations (2006), featuring the hit “Supermassive Black Hole”, that propelled them to the status of the biggest stadium rock band in the United Kingdom.
The Resistance (2009) debuted at number one in 19 countries. The album includes a three-part symphony composed by Bellamy.
Matthew Bellamy possesses an exceptional three-octave vocal range and is ranked among the best active guitarists. His compositions blend influences ranging from Chopin to heavy metal, including electronic music and space rock. He is also known for his interest in government conspiracy theories, which inspire the dystopian themes found throughout the band’s albums.
