Origins and background

Jack Sonni is an American guitarist born in New Jersey. While working in a guitar shop in New York, he met Mark Knopfler, who invited him to join Dire Straits in 1984 as a rhythm and support guitarist.

With Dire Straits

Jack Sonni took part in the Brothers in Arms world tour (1985–1986), one of the biggest tours of its time. He appears on live recordings from this era, helping enrich the band’s sound on stage.
After the tour, he left the band and returned to a more private life.
Although discreet and relatively unknown to the general public, Jack Sonni performed in front of millions of fans during one of the most prestigious tours in rock history. His role was to support Knopfler’s complex sonic textures in live performances, requiring precise and sensitive playing.
