This is without a doubt one of the most anticipated signature series of recent years: the famous Fender Masterbuilt John Frusciante Stratocaster. Put simply, it is the exact replica of the legendary Strat used by the Red Hot Chili Peppers prodigy, crafted by the Fender Custom Shop.
For several years now, anything related to John Frusciante has taken on a sacred aura. A prodigy of electric guitar whose trajectory was shaped by personal struggles, he has touched millions with his inspired and passionate style within one of the world’s most iconic bands, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Deeply influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Frusciante has always given a central place to Fender Stratocasters throughout his career. Naturally, when the Fender Custom Shop announced a limited edition of his guitar, the enthusiast community exploded with excitement.
This instrument aims to be the most accurate possible replica of his cherished 1962 Stratocaster. The beautifully aged Sunburst finish, worn by time and playing, has become inseparable from his image. Beyond that, it carries a story that only strengthens its symbolic weight among fans. It was Anthony Kiedis who gave it to him in 1998, when Frusciante rejoined the band after a necessary hiatus. According to Anthony, John no longer had guitars at that time—most had been sold or destroyed in the fire that ravaged his home. They went together to Guitar Center, where he chose a 1962 Strat that has since become his faithful companion. This guitar appears in most of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ live performances and, of course, in studio sessions. If a guitar could talk, it would be this one…
Each guitar in this limited series has been meticulously built and assembled by the Custom Shop, with aged and worn lacquer, recreated wood grain, and matching wear marks… everything is replicated to perfection to offer fans the illusion of playing a historic instrument.
Matt’s Guitar Shop was particularly excited to finally discover this highly sought-after model. By happy chance, the shop was even able to lend it to Adam Warrington for his concert with Yungblud at the Adidas Arena in Paris in early October! A great opportunity to hear it live—and one thing is certain: it fits perfectly. Check out our video about it!
