After Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Yungblud last summer, it was time for @deryckwhibley of Sum 41 to play Steve Jones’ 1974 Les Paul Custom during Sum 41’s final concert in Europe. A great admirer of the Sex Pistols, he was eager to perform on the guitar of one of his biggest inspirations. In front of 42,500 eager spectators at Paris’s La Défense Arena, the guitar that was used during the era of *God Save The Queen* once again unleashed all its rage and subversive energy.

This legendary guitar, part of the Matt’s Guitar Shop collection, caught Whibley’s attention when Billie Joe Armstrong played it in June at the Accor Hotel Arena. Freshly unearthed by the Shop, this instrument, which crystallized the politically charged music of the Sex Pistols, was just beginning its return to the public stage.

“In the weeks leading up to the concert, Deryck and I talked about our mutual love for the Sex Pistols. That’s when we planned this event: Deryck would play the iconic 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom — the very same one Steve Jones used with the Sex Pistols on stage and in the studio for *Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols*.” — Matt Lucas.

The legend continues to be written for one of the most watched, censored, and talked-about guitars of the second half of the 20th century.
