Gibson SG Junior 1964 Ex Incubus

Gibson SG Junior 1964 Ex Incubus

Among the veterans of American rock, Incubus is one of those bands that have steadily secured their prominent place in both listeners’ minds and the charts. The Californians have been playing together since high school and rose to fame thanks to relentless work and constant touring. While staying true to their rock roots, Incubus embraced influences from metal and grunge, building a diverse and engaging repertoire shaped by powerful riffs. This 1964 Gibson SG Junior contributed to that energetic rock: it was part of guitarist Mike Einziger’s touring arsenal and was played during the 2008 “Light Grenades” tour after being modified.

The California-based Incubus quickly stood out with their punchy and energetic rock. Led on guitar by Mike Einziger, Incubus climbed the charts to become a major name in American rock. In addition to being a key instrumental figure in the band, Einziger also made a name for himself through collaborations with a wide range of artists, including Pharrell Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Avicii. On his recent tours, Mike Einziger played a modified Gibson SG Junior tailored to his needs. This is the guitar—used during the 2008 tour for the “Light Grenades” album—now available at Matt’s Guitar Shop. It’s a 1964 Gibson SG Junior that he altered to alleviate carpal tunnel issues and to give it a more versatile profile. A neck P-90 pickup and a pickup selector were added, and the neck was sanded down. Einziger needed a more comfortable guitar for touring after undergoing surgery. This beautifully upgraded 1964 SG was signed on the top by Mike Einziger with the inscription “Incubus 2009,” after being played throughout the 2008 tour. An exceptional guitar, customized for the needs of Mike Einziger and Incubus, available exclusively at Matt’s Guitar Shop!
