The Cure<\/strong> werd opgericht in Crawley<\/strong>, Sussex, in 1976<\/strong> rond Robert Smith<\/strong> (zang, gitaar). Met The Head on the Door (1985)<\/strong> en Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (1987)<\/strong> maakte de groep een meer popgerichte wending en bereikte ze een veel groter publiek.<\/p>\n Disintegration (1989)<\/strong> wordt beschouwd als hun meesterwerk en combineert melancholie<\/strong>, groots geluid<\/strong> en toegankelijke popmelodie\u00ebn<\/strong> in nummers als “Lovesong”<\/strong>, “Pictures of You”<\/strong> en “Lullaby”<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Robert Smith sloot zich in 1983<\/strong> tijdelijk aan bij Siouxsie and the Banshees<\/strong> als tourgitarist, terwijl hij tegelijkertijd actief bleef bij The Cure. Deze dubbele rol verrijkte zowel zijn gitaarspel als zijn composities.
