Mark Freuder Knopfler<\/strong> nasce il 12 agosto 1949<\/strong> a Glasgow<\/strong>, in Scozia, da padre ungherese e madre inglese. Cresce a Newcastle<\/strong> e lavora come giornalista<\/strong> e insegnante di inglese<\/strong> prima di dedicarsi completamente alla musica. Fonda i Dire Straits<\/strong> nel 1977<\/strong> a Londra con suo fratello David Knopfler<\/strong>, John Illsley<\/strong> (basso) e Pick Withers<\/strong> (batteria).
