The story of the Gibson Les Paul Jimmy Page “Number Two”

Behind this model is, of course, Jimmy Page, the sonic architect of Led Zeppelin and a central figure in the evolution of rock during the 1970s. His playing, both instinctive and visionary, pushed the boundaries of what the electric guitar could express. And at the heart of this approach, his instruments played a fundamental role.

The famous “Number Two” is Jimmy Page’s second Les Paul, used alongside his legendary “Number One”. Contrary to what its name might suggest, it was never simply a backup guitar. It had its own sonic and functional identity, particularly thanks to a set of advanced electronic modifications. With its push/pull controls, it provided access to an extremely wide tonal palette, ranging from thick and massive overdriven sounds to finer textures, almost reminiscent of an acoustic character. A true creative extension in the hands of the musician.

A sought-after Custom Shop VOS reissue

This experimental approach perfectly matches Gibson’s philosophy, which has transformed this guitar into a Custom Shop VOS reissue faithful to the spirit of the original. Here we find a carefully crafted reproduction, designed to recreate not only the aesthetics, but above all the playing feel and tonal versatility that made the original model so powerful.

The result is an unconventional Les Paul within the great Gibson family. Where many models focus on a clearly defined sonic identity, this “Number Two” invites exploration. Every position, every setting opens up a new possibility. It is a guitar that encourages experimentation, breaking away from habits and approaching things differently. Above all, it is a guitar for creation.

A versatile and expressive Jimmy Page Les Paul

From the very first notes, the instrument asserts its personality: a rich, dynamic and extremely expressive sound. The mids are present without being overwhelming, the lows remain solid, and the highs retain remarkable clarity. Together, this creates a highly inspiring balance that immediately makes you want to keep playing.

This model, offered in superb condition, is aimed both at collectors who appreciate Jimmy Page’s legacy and at musicians looking for a genuinely versatile and stimulating instrument. A guitar designed to be used, explored and pushed to its limits.

Offered at €14,500, this Jimmy Page “Number Two” is not merely a collector’s piece: it is a major creative tool, directly connected to one of the most influential guitarists in rock history.
