The Verve<\/strong> was formed in Wigan<\/strong>, Lancashire, in 1990<\/strong> by Richard Ashcroft<\/strong> (vocals), Nick McCabe<\/strong> (guitar), Simon Jones<\/strong> (bass), and Peter Salisbury<\/strong> (drums). The band quickly distinguished itself with a psychedelic<\/strong> and atmospheric<\/strong> sound.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”|300|||||||” text_font_size=”16px” header_font=”|700|||||||” header_text_align=”center” header_font_size=”36px” header_2_font=”–et_global_heading_font|300|||||||” header_2_text_color=”#ddab05″ header_2_font_size=”24px” text_orientation=”justified” background_layout=”dark” width=”100%” width_tablet=”” width_phone=”100%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” module_alignment=”center” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n <\/p>\n After two critically acclaimed albums\u2014A Storm in Heaven (1993)<\/strong> and A Northern Soul (1995)<\/strong>\u2014Urban Hymns (1997)<\/strong> became a commercial triumph, selling more than 10 million copies<\/strong> worldwide. “Bitter Sweet Symphony”<\/strong>, built around an orchestral sample derived from a Rolling Stones<\/strong> composition, became a global anthem.<\/p>\n The legal dispute over the sample with Allen Klein<\/strong>, the former manager of the Stones, deprived the band of royalties for years before the rights were finally returned to Ashcroft in 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Nick McCabe<\/strong> is widely regarded as one of the most underrated guitarists<\/strong> in British rock. His playing, combining psychedelic effects<\/strong>, atmospheric textures<\/strong>, and improvisation<\/strong>, created the immersive soundscapes that became The Verve’s signature.
