Formation and early years<\/h2>\n

Red Hot Chili Peppers<\/strong> was formed in Los Angeles<\/strong> in 1983<\/strong> by Anthony Kiedis<\/strong> (vocals), Flea<\/strong> (bass), Hillel Slovak<\/strong> (guitar), and Jack Irons<\/strong> (drums). The band fused funk, punk, rock<\/strong>, and rap<\/strong> into a groundbreaking new style.<\/p>\n

Blood Sugar and Californication<\/h2>\n

After the death of Hillel Slovak<\/strong> in 1988<\/strong>, John Frusciante<\/strong> joined the band. Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991)<\/strong>, produced by Rick Rubin<\/strong>, became a turning point: “Under the Bridge”<\/strong> and “Give It Away”<\/strong> became worldwide hits.
After a difficult period, Californication (1999)<\/strong> marked a triumphant comeback. By the Way (2002)<\/strong> and Stadium Arcadium (2006)<\/strong> confirmed their status as the biggest alternative rock band<\/strong> in the world.
Flea<\/strong> (born Michael Balzary<\/strong>) is a complete musician: a classically trained trumpeter, actor (appearing in Back to the Future Part II<\/strong> and The Big Lebowski<\/strong>), and a bassist whose aggressive yet melodic slap<\/strong> technique redefined the role of the bass in rock music. His partnership with Frusciante is considered one of the most creative guitar-bass duos<\/strong> in rock history.<\/p>\n

The RHCP have sold more than 120 million albums<\/strong> and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame<\/strong> in 2012<\/strong>. Flea<\/strong> is widely regarded as one of the greatest bassists in rock history<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
