George Washington Benson<\/strong> was born on March 22, 1943<\/strong> in Pittsburgh<\/strong>, Pennsylvania. A child prodigy, he played the ukulele<\/strong> from the age of 7<\/strong>, singing in the streets to earn money, and switched to guitar at 8<\/strong>. By 17<\/strong>, he was already recording his first records and joining the jazz<\/strong> scene in Pittsburgh. The track “This Masquerade”<\/strong> earned him a Grammy Award<\/strong>, and the instrumental “Breezin”<\/strong> became a jazz-pop standard. Give Me the Night (1980)<\/strong>, produced by Quincy Jones<\/strong>, established him as a global star with its title track hit. The album blends jazz<\/strong>, funk<\/strong>, disco<\/strong>, and R&B<\/strong> with rare fluidity.
