Herkunft und Anf\u00e4nge<\/h2>\n

J.R. Cash<\/strong> wird am 26. Februar 1932<\/strong> in Kingsland<\/strong>, Arkansas, geboren. Nach seinem Dienst in der US Air Force<\/strong> in Deutschland unterschreibt er 1955<\/strong> bei Sun Records<\/strong> in Memphis<\/strong>, zusammen mit Elvis Presley<\/strong>, Jerry Lee Lewis<\/strong> und Carl Perkins<\/strong> (dem Million Dollar Quartet<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Karriere und wichtige Alben<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Titel wie „I Walk the Line“ (1956)<\/strong>, „Ring of Fire“ (1963)<\/strong> und „Folsom Prison Blues“ (1955)<\/strong> machen ihn zu einer Legende des Country, Rockabilly und Folk<\/strong>.
Die Live-Alben At Folsom Prison (1968)<\/strong> und At San Quentin (1969)<\/strong>, die in Gef\u00e4ngnissen aufgenommen wurden, z\u00e4hlen zu den bedeutendsten Live-Aufnahmen der Musikgeschichte.
Cash ist auch f\u00fcr sein soziales Engagement bekannt: Er tritt in Gef\u00e4ngnissen<\/strong> auf, setzt sich f\u00fcr die Rechte der amerikanischen Ureinwohner<\/strong> ein und positioniert sich gegen den Vietnamkrieg<\/strong>. Stets in Schwarz gekleidet (daher sein Spitzname „The Man in Black“<\/strong>), erkl\u00e4rte er, diese Farbe aus Solidarit\u00e4t mit den Armen und Unterdr\u00fcckten zu tragen.<\/p>\n

Neubeginn und Verm\u00e4chtnis<\/h2>\n

Seine sp\u00e4ten Zusammenarbeiten mit dem Produzenten Rick Rubin<\/strong> bei den American Recordings (1994\u20132010)<\/strong> verschaffen ihm eine au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnliche k\u00fcnstlerische Wiedergeburt<\/strong>. Seine Coverversion von „Hurt“<\/strong> von Nine Inch Nails (2002)<\/strong> wurde ikonisch.
Johnny Cash stirbt am 12. September 2003<\/strong> in Nashville<\/strong>. Er wird 1992<\/strong> in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame<\/strong> und 1980<\/strong> in die Country Music Hall of Fame<\/strong> aufgenommen.<\/p>\n
